Considered a classic and one of the finest puzzle adventures ever, here is the review of Professor Layton and The Miracle Mask
Professor Layton and The Miracle Mask is the first true 3D adventure in the Professor Layton series of games. The story has Professor Hershel Layton visit the beautiful 18 year old city of Monte d'Or, which has been built in a desert.
Layton and his crew (Luke and Emmy) are soon in action when a masked super vilain comes into play by turning a bunch of tourists into stone! The puzzles are mind bending, and the plot and drama in The Miracle Mask unfold very nicely as Layton meets an old flame, the beautiful Angela.
The graphics are lovely as they are now completely 3D models (no flat 2D art) and are animated beautifully. When you investigate certain areas and see the paralax styled 3D layer scrolling as you move the magnifying glass around the area, it really adds to the atmosphere.
Sound too is awesome, very atmospheric with some excellent soundtracks composed by Tomohito Nishiura.
The voice cast and acting is brilliant, very dramatic indeed, actors Christopher Robin Miller as Layton, Lani Minela and Troy Baker are a few of the actors that you will hear in the game. The only downside for me is that I only wish the game had been completely voiced in every scene. When the characters are speaking it adds to the great drama however in a lot of the sequences it just switches to text baloons without the voices, which for me slightly ruins the pacing of an otherwise brilliant game and story.
Professor Layton and The Miracle Mask is now already considered a classic Nintendo 3DS title and a must buy for Professor Layton fans, puzzle fans and Nintendo gamers.
